Scuropasso:
The place of origin of Pinot Nero in Italy, Scuropasso Valley remains a point of reference for Oltrepò Pavese and its wine industry
Scuropasso Valley has always been a major thoroughfare for the Salt Roads, and a link to the Upper Oltrepò, among woods and fells. In 1865 the Count of Rocca de’ Giorgi made wine from this noble grape variety for the first time in Italy, and his choice of where to do so was by no means accidental.
Indeed, thanks to its unique
terroir, which is one of the Oltrepò Pavese’s distinguishing
features in terms of variety, mixed clay and limestone soils with
large white marlstone sediments lead to notes of minerality,
verticality and acidity.
